|---|---|---|
| Material | Premium forged steel engineered for lasting strength and corrosion resistance. | Often stamped or made from standard steel blends that may sacrifice durability or rust resistance. |
| Sharpness | 20% sharper than standard knives, thanks to laser-guided PEtec technology. | Factory-sharpened blades that start strong but dull faster and lack precision honing. |
| Craftsmanship | Hand-finished in Solingen, Germany with 200+ years of expertise and precision in every detail. | Mass-produced or partially outsourced craftsmanship that lacks the same heritage and consistency. |
| Corrosion Resistance | Exceptional rust resistance for a blade that stays beautiful for decades. | Prone to staining or rust if not carefully maintained—especially with frequent kitchen use. |
| Edge Retention | Stays sharper twice as long as ordinary knives, reducing the need to re-sharpen. | Edges wear faster over time, requiring more frequent sharpening and touch-ups. |
| Limited Lifetime Warranty | Limited lifetime warranty – a promise backed by generations of quality. | Lifetime coverage may exist, but with less transparency and variable service depending on the brand. |

Wusthof is maintaining is quality standards
"This knife was a replacement under the warranty, which went very smoothly. We've had the knife we were replacing for probably 30 years and the handle was smooth and comfortable and the knife blade was heavy and sturdy. I was worried, like most things, the modern day version would not be of the same quality or comfort, but the new knife feels as good as the old one. It's of course wicked sharp and we couldn't be happier. Wusthof is the only brand we will buy."
Fantastic knife
"This is the most amazing knife for food prep. It slices through vegetables with no sticking g thanks to the hollow edge. I had been happily using my Wusthof chefs knife for years but had looked at the Santorum and was tempted by the new blueberry colour. Very pleased with my purchase. There was a slight problem with the courier delivery and Amy from Wusthof could not have been more helpful in sorting it r. Ten out of ten for customer service."
Warranty and Purchase
"We had a warranty issue with an older classic chef knife. We reached out then mailed the knife and Wusthof promptly issued a credit for their online store. We just received the replacement knife, which of course, is fantastic. All in all, an easy process. Thank you, Wusthof!"
sharpest knife on the planet
"I used my first Wusthof knife for 20 years. It was the sharpest knife I had ever used. I loved the way it sliced through the vegetables I chopped. I am looking forward to using this replacement knife for however long the Lord leaves me on this earth! Be very careful when using yours. . . I have cut my left hand and fingers numerous times. . . it is almost a family joke. I do try to remember to use my cut glove and metal finger shield!"

Q&A
- Q: I was wondering the angle on this blade as it is modeled after an Asian knife? Asian knives are usually ~10 to 15 degrees while western knives are usually around 20.
- Our Asian-style knives such as the Santoku and Nakiri have a 10-degree angle at the edge. Our standard knives have a 14.5-degree angle. For further information please reach out to our Customer Support Team directly at info@wusthof.com
- Good day! I am wondering if this Santoku knife is dish washer safe? Thank you!
- These simple care tips will ensure your WÜSTHOF knives remain in premium condition for years to come. DO Hand-wash your knives right after use Use warm water and mild dish soap Carefully dry knives immediately with a soft cloth Return to safe storage using a knife block, in-drawer knife tray, knife roll, or blade guards Pro Tip: To help keep wooden handles looking their best, use a few drops of food-grade mineral oil directly on the knife handle and buff in with a soft cloth to polish and preserve its original luster DON'T To avoid any damage that could be caused by the high temperature or knives rubbing during the washing cycle, do not place knives in the dishwasher Do not use abrasive sponges, cloths, or cleaners as they can scratch the blades of the knives Do not leave knives sitting or soaking in the sink. Food remains (spices, sauces, juices) can damage the blades and spots can form, causing corrosion. Pro Tip: Keep crème and white-handled knives out of direct sunlight as the handles may be sensitive to UV rays. For further information, please reach out to our Customer Support Team directly at info@wusthof.com
- I dropped my Classic X50 Cr Mo V15 Hollow edge Santoku #4183/17 knife and the handle broke. I was wondering if it could be repaired under warranty as the knife is probably fifteen years old ? If it is fixable where would I have to send it. Definitely one of the best knives I've ever owned.
- Oh no! We're so sorry to hear about the crack in the handle of your beloved Santoku! The good news is that a cracked handle may be covered under our Limited Lifetime Warranty - but we'll need to inspect it first.
